A single-vehicle crash in Decatur Township, Pennsylvania, sent the driver to the Geisinger Lewistown hospital after their car ended up lodged in the second story of a home on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Junction Fire Company, who responded to the scene within minutes, the crash occurred in the 800 block of Alfarta Road at 3:15 p.m.

Photos from the scene show the drivers side of the car settled into a secondfloor room while the car’s passenger side balanced on the roof with the trunk and rear tires hanging off the home.

It is presently unknown how the car gained so much altitude, but fire personnel said later that the driver had struck a ditch, which may have caused the car to become uncontrollable.

Rescue crews had to maintain the home’s property due to pending stormy weather before the car was pulled out of the house. It took them three hours to do so.

The vehicle’s driver was the only person injured in the crash, and a spokesperson for the state police in Lewistown stated that this incident resulted from the driver attempting to inflict selfharm due to a mental health episode.

Charges will be filed against the driver. Luckily, all individuals in the home were unharmed. The Junction Fire team was commended for their fast response to the unusual incident and their work to ensure the home was safe and stable before the dangerous weather arrived.

It is still unclear what exactly caused the driver to go airborne and end up lodged in the second floor of a house, but the investigation is ongoing, and more details should come to light soon.
