Sailing Race Paused Due To Lack Of Wind

Hello everyone! Here’s the latest hiccup from the 2024 Paris Olympics: a total lack of wind caused the men’s skiff final race to be abandoned on Thursday. Yep, you read that right—no wind, no race. According to Reuters, officials decided there just wasn’t enough breeze to finish the race, which had already started.

Spain’s boat, manned by Diego Botin and Florian Trittel, initially took the lead, but as the wind died down, their momentum fizzled out on the second leg. That’s when the officials pulled the plug.

BBC commentators were flabbergasted, saying they’d “never seen anything like it.” And in the quirky world of sailing, the lowest score at the time of abandonment doesn’t crown a winner, so Spain’s lead didn’t mean much after all.

There’s no word yet on when the men’s skiff final will be rescheduled. While the officials scramble to figure that out, they’ve also postponed the women’s skiff final, which was supposed to follow the men’s race. Again, no new time has been set for that event either.

Race directors are now on the hunt for a different part of the bay at Marseille Marina that might offer the right conditions for a restart. As for Team USA, Ian Barrows and Hans Henken were at the helm and crew, respectively, ready to take on the wind—or lack thereof.

The Paris 2024 Olympics continue to be a worldwide disappointment. From the horrendous opening mocking Christianity to letting a biological man beat a woman in boxing, the disgusting Seine River, and so much more. There seems to be nothing good for Paris…and maybe rightly so.
