A video that has been circulating online shows Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents detaining a crying woman inside Terminal 3 late Sunday night, as stunned passengers looked on. The footage captures the tense moment as officers attempt to handcuff the woman while a young child nearby sobs, prompting bystanders to shout and demand answers.

“This is un-American!” one person yells in the video, while others press agents for identification as emotions escalate.

Within hours, the clip exploded online, with critics pointing to it as evidence of aggressive immigration enforcement tied to President Trump’s broader policies—including a recent move to deploy immigration agents to assist with airport security bottlenecks.

But federal officials say that narrative is flat-out wrong.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, the woman in the video was part of a family of Guatemalan nationals who have been under final removal orders since 2019. Authorities say the arrest was part of a targeted enforcement operation—not a random sweep or anything connected to airport security efforts.

DHS further stated that the situation intensified when the woman allegedly resisted arrest and attempted to flee while being escorted, forcing agents to intervene and restrain her again.

Airport officials also moved quickly to shut down speculation. A spokesperson confirmed the incident had nothing to do with any new federal directives or ICE deployments related to TSA operations. In fact, San Francisco International Airport operates under a different screening system using private contractors, meaning it hasn’t been impacted by the recent TSA-related disruptions seen elsewhere.

Despite that, the viral video has taken on a life of its own.

Crowds gathered during the incident, with some passengers booing agents and others calling local police. Officers from the San Francisco Police Department responded to the scene but did not interfere with the federal arrest.

ICE agents ultimately removed the woman from the terminal, with law enforcement present.

Airport officials emphasized they had no prior knowledge of the operation and that the incident did not disrupt flights or passenger flow.

Still, the optics of the moment—a crying woman, a distressed child, and a public confrontation—have proven powerful fuel for online debate.
