Back in May, she told “Deadline” about her excitement in transforming her body for the physically demanding part. “I grappled and did kickboxing from 12 to 19 years old,” she said. “I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body.” But the film demands more than just physical strength—Christy Martin’s journey is an emotionally heavy one, marked by challenges both inside and outside the ring. “Christy’s story isn’t a light one,” Sweeney emphasized. “There’s a lot of weight to carry, but I love challenging myself.”
