Kamala Harris is weighing another run for the White House in 2028, but not everyone in her party is convinced. A new report from Politico shows growing skepticism among donors and strategists about her future. They say she has not done enough to separate herself from her failed 2024 campaign. Her allies push back hard, calling the criticism “infuriating in its silliness,” per Fox News.

The real question is whether she can change the narrative before the next election cycle begins. Some insiders say she has already missed her chance to reinvent her image. Others argue her policy ideas are strong enough to win over voters again.

Insiders See More of the Same

Longtime Democratic strategist Doug Herman told Politico that Harris “totally blew it… She hasn’t gotten into the mix,” according to Fox News. Former South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges agreed with that view. He told the same outlet, “I don’t see anything different myself. It seems like more of the same to me.”

Nearly 20 Democratic donors and strategists based in California provided these comments through interviews. They represent a shift in mood within the party. Many feel the former vice president has not made a clear break from her past. The doubts are not just about policy but about her ability to connect with voters now.

Allies Claim Groundbreaking Plans

Maria Cardona, an outside advisor to Harris, argues that the story about her squandering an opportunity is wrong. She said the claim was “infuriating in its silliness,” per Fox News. Cardona pointed to specific ideas like expanding the Supreme Court and lowering the voting age to 16. She also highlighted plans to make DC and Puerto Rico states as “groundbreaking policies.”

Cardona asked how critics can say she has done nothing new when she lists these specific proposals. She insists that Harris “is still the most qualified person to be president of the United States that is mentioned as a possible candidate for 2028,” according to Fox News. The ally argues that the criticism ignores the actual work Harris has proposed.

Balancing Joy and Public Duty

While the political debate rages, Harris also faces personal criticism about her laugh and demeanor. According to Breitbart, she informed Keke Palmer during a podcast that her joy would not be taken by anyone. Harris explained that balancing “who Madame VP gets to be as a human and who she has to show up as” “can be difficult,” according to Breitbart.

She noted she “was raised in a family that included very powerful women, who laughed from their bellies,” per Breitbart. Harris stated, “Those who try to take your joy are trying to make you weak, and that’s where my fight comes in,” according to Breitbart. This focus on personal joy contrasts sharply with the political doubts voiced by party insiders.

The Accountability Question

The gap between what allies say and what insiders think is wide. Cardona calls the policies groundbreaking, while Herman says she has blown her chance. Voters will need to see more than just words to believe in a new path forward. The question remains whether Harris can prove she has truly changed her approach.

For everyday Americans, the stakes are high. A leader who cannot convince her own party may struggle to convince the nation. The real test is not what she says about her joy, but whether she can deliver results that match her claims. If the party remains divided, the voters will likely stay away.
