In case you missed it, country music legend Dolly Parton made headlines this past Thanksgiving for her performance during the Dallas Cowboys game against the Washington Commanders. But it wasn’t just her stunning vocals that captured the attention of viewers — it was her bold choice of outfit that had everyone talking.

Dolly, 77, took to the stage during The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show wearing a replica of the iconic Dallas Cowboys cheerleader uniform. The ensemble, which included a white vest with blue stars, a chest-baring blue crop top, white shorts, and a bedazzled piece of mesh covering her midriff with crystal stars, was met with both praise and criticism.

While many praised the singer for her energy and confidence, some took issue with her choice to wear the outfit at her age. However, Dolly’s sister Stella Parton is not one to stay quiet when it comes to defending her family.

In a recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Stella, 74, wrote, “I personally thought my big sister Dolly was cute as hell in her Dallas Cowboys cheerleading costume at the halftime show on Thanksgiving.”

Stella’s words of support for her sister did not go unnoticed, with fans and followers alike applauding her for standing up for Dolly. Many also joined in praising Dolly for her incredible performance and for breaking age barriers with her fearless fashion choice.

This is not the first time Dolly has faced criticism for her appearance. In fact, the singer has been outspoken about body positivity and embracing her age. In an interview with ABC News last year, Dolly stated, “I’m not trying to be fashionable. I’m just doing my thing. I don’t care how I look as long as I’m comfortable with myself.”

Dolly’s bold fashion choice also holds a special significance. The halftime show was in support of The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign, which raises funds for those in need during the holiday season. And Dolly, a longtime supporter of the organization, had previously collaborated with them on her hit song “Christmas on the Square.”

It’s clear that for Dolly, the outfit was not just about making a fashion statement, but also about supporting a cause close to her heart.

Even though the critics may have their opinions, the important thing to remember is that Dolly is unapologetically herself and always stays true to her values. And as Stella’s post showed, she has the support of her family and fans every step of the way.

As the holiday season approaches, let us all take a page out of Dolly’s book and spread love and kindness instead of criticism and judgment. After all, as Dolly says, “If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours.”
