Woman Sues Disney After Alleged Water Slide Incident

A 25-year-old woman named Laura Reyes-Merino is suing Disney World for over $50,000 after a ride on the Humunga Kowabunga allegedly left her unconscious and bleeding from the mouth.

Here’s the scoop: On May 11, Reyes-Merino decided to brave the high-speed Humunga Kowabunga ride. This thrill ride features an enclosed body slide with a steep 60-degree angle, dropping riders 214 feet downhill in the dark before they splash into the water. Sounds exhilarating, right? Well, it turned into a nightmare for Reyes-Merino.

According to the lawsuit filed in Orange County, Reyes-Merino claims she lost consciousness after hitting the sides of the slide. Her fiancé found her limp and bleeding from the mouth at the end of the ride. The situation quickly turned chaotic as her family desperately sought help from nearby attendants, who told them they were not lifeguards and directed them to find a lifeguard.

Eventually, a lifeguard was found, but according to the suit, they could not assist directly and had to call an ambulance. The suit argues that Reyes-Merino’s injuries could have been prevented if lifeguards had been stationed at the end of the ride. It claims that Typhoon Lagoon failed to ensure the safety of its premises and did not warn guests about the potential dangers.

This isn’t the first time the Humunga Kowabunga has made headlines. Last year, another woman filed a lawsuit after suffering a severe injury on the same ride while celebrating her 30th birthday. She claimed the impact of the slide caused a “painful wedgie” and forced water into her body, resulting in severe lacerations, internal organ damage, and a hernia.

These incidents raise serious questions about the safety measures at one of the world’s most popular vacation resorts. According to Magic Guide, Walt Disney World is the most visited vacation resort globally, with over 58 million visitors annually. However, these lawsuits highlight potential lapses in safety protocols.

Disney has yet to comment on the latest lawsuit. As the legal battle unfolds, it will be interesting to see how Disney addresses these serious allegations and what measures they might implement to prevent future incidents.
