Ladies and gentlemen, buckle up for some eye-rolling news from the political rumor mill.
It seems Chelsea Clinton has set her sights on an ambassadorship if Kamala Harris ascends to the presidency. According to sources, the former first daughter is gunning for the UK ambassadorship. Yes, you heard that right – she wants to be the ambassador to the United Kingdom.
A Clinton insider spilled the beans, saying, “Chelsea really wants to be the ambassador to the UK.” And it seems the Clinton clan has been laying the groundwork for this for quite some time. There’s a reason why Bill and Hillary were quick to back Kamala’s presidential bid – they’re obviously currying favor for their daughter.
But let’s be real here. As one British embassy official put it, “It is, of course, fantasy land.” Chelsea might dream of sipping tea with the Queen, but these top ambassador gigs usually go to massive donors or fundraisers, not someone who’s been riding the coattails of her famous parents.
Chelsea, who’s currently the vice chair of the Clinton Foundation, wouldn’t mind settling for France either. Talk about aiming high! Businesswoman Jane Hartley, who’s been ambassador to the UK since 2022, got the gig after Michael Bloomberg turned it down. Under Trump, the role was held by New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, a top GOP fundraiser. So, yeah, these positions are usually about big bucks and connections, not just wishful thinking.

But Chelsea isn’t deterred. She’s apparently open to ambassadorships in other countries, too. One source noted, “I’ve heard for a long time that Chelsea has been hopeful for an ambassadorship.” Well, who wouldn’t want a cushy diplomatic gig?
Let’s not forget Chelsea’s ties to the UK. Like her dad, she attended Oxford University, snagging a Master of Philosophy degree in international relations and later a doctorate. So, she’s got some creds, but does that really cut it for such a prime position?
A friend of the Clintons insists their endorsement of Harris was all about defeating Trump, not setting Chelsea up for a fancy overseas job. But the timing and the ambition? It’s all a bit too convenient, isn’t it?
When the Clintons were the first ones out of the box to endorse Harris, I assumed they were trying to reestablish primacy in the party. I should have known it was much more pedestrian: trying to get Chelsea a plum ambassador gig. https://t.co/1FPmweWN1K

And get this, another source suggested Chelsea could do some good work in South Africa, given her passion for public health. Sure, why not aim for a country with actual needs rather than cushy posts in England or France?
