Well, in case you needed another reminder that politics isn’t about doing the right thing anymore — it’s about scoring points, appeasing Twitter, and sticking it to Trump — here’s your wake-up call: Senate Democrats just voted against paying our military during a government shutdown.
Of course — here’s the part that really puts it over the edge. While Senate Democrats were voting against funding the military, they’re still getting paid. That’s right — the same people who said “no” to paying our troops, the same ones who tanked a bill that would have guaranteed their salaries and given them a raise during a shutdown — are still cashing their taxpayer-funded checks like nothing’s wrong.
Let that sink in for a second.
Disgusting doesn’t even begin to cover it.
While everyday Americans are watching the clock tick down on one of the longest government shutdowns in U.S. history, and troops are wondering when their next paycheck is coming, Democrats in the Senate decided that holding the line on political posturing was more important than making sure our service members can feed their families.
Our troops are NOT getting paid because of the Democrat shutdown.

And it’s not like this was some poison-pill bill, packed with random partisan nonsense. Nope. The defense appropriations bill that Republicans tried to pass would do exactly what it sounds like: fund the Department of Defense for the entire year and guarantee military pay — along with a well-earned pay raise for the troops. It passed out of committee nearly unanimously back in July. But when it mattered most? Democrats tanked it.
The vote was 50–44. Only three Democrats — John Fetterman (yes, really), Catherine Cortez Masto, and Jeanne Shaheen — had the backbone to stand up and do the right thing. The rest? All in with Chuck Schumer’s shutdown theater.
And here’s where the hypocrisy goes from annoying to insulting.
Just last week, Senate Democrats voted for a bill to authorize increased troop pay. Sounds great on paper. Big headline. Nice optics. But when it came time to actually cut the check? They voted no. As Senator John Thune pointed out in a blistering speech, it’s the kind of two-faced move that Washington’s become infamous for. Vote for the idea of helping the troops, but don’t actually pay them. Because, you know, Trump might get credit.
Meanwhile, President Trump — acting like the only adult in the room — used leftover Pentagon funds to temporarily cover military pay. That move kept troops from missing their first paycheck ever during a shutdown. That’s right: this would have been the first time in American history that troops went unpaid during a government shutdown. And Democrats still voted no.
But don’t worry — if you ask them why, they’ll tell you this is about “process.” Or “healthcare add-ons.” Or that Trump is moving money from “the wrong accounts.” Blah, blah, blah. Translation: they’re playing chicken with the paychecks of the men and women who wear the uniform — all because they want to leverage the shutdown to get a few more progressive wins baked into the budget.
Troops aren’t being paid right now because the Democrats want to spend nearly $200 billion on subsidies for illegal immigrants and non-citizens. This shutdown stunt from Schumer and Democrats is shameful. pic.twitter.com/WbvwA3wFrf

Oh, and in case you’re wondering how serious Democrats are about “working together,” this was the tenth time they’ve filibustered a bipartisan bill to end the shutdown. Ten. T-E-N. At some point, it’s no longer about compromise — it’s sabotage.
Let’s not forget: people join the military to serve the country. They don’t expect to become pawns in a political game. But that’s exactly what Democrats have turned them into — pawns they’ll happily throw under the bus if it means blocking Trump, scoring headlines, or boosting their next campaign ad.
If you still think the Democratic Party is the party of the “little guy” or the “working class,” I’ve got news for you: they just voted against paying the troops. Full stop.
Can Democrats go any lower? My God, fighting against paying our troops.

So yeah, the troops might miss their next paycheck — but rest assured, the politicians who put them in this mess absolutely won’t. They’ll get their full salary, on time, courtesy of you, the taxpayer.
It’s a national disgrace. And it’s happening in plain sight.
And with the Senate now on recess until Monday, this shutdown is going to stretch even longer — while Schumer and his crew stall, spin, and sabotage.
Priorities, right?
