In the past month, the skies over South America have become a stage for an extraordinary celestial show.
Strange luminous ‘rods’ have been spotted gliding through the heavens, captured on camera in Argentina, Chile, and Brazil. DailyMail.com revealed these mysterious sightings, fueling intrigue and speculation among both locals and experts.
The sightings began on April 29 when Rony Vernet, a Petrobras engineer and UFO researcher, recorded one such phenomenon near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At precisely 5:01 AM, Vernet’s cameras captured a cylindrical object slowly traversing the southeastern night sky, disappearing after 80 seconds. This was just the beginning.
Full video of the huge UFO I captured in my cameras. The only explanation for me would be Starlink, but no satellite train was visible at the time of the sighting.

On May 6, another resident in Argentina documented a similar white object moving serenely above their home. That evening, at 7:14 PM, a witness in Viña del Mar, Chile, recorded a blue cylinder floating across the sky. The very same night, another video surfaced from Luján de Cuyo, Chile, showcasing the enigmatic object.
Then, on May 8, residents near the Brazil-Uruguay border witnessed one of these rods changing color from white to blue and yellow. Vernet collected further videos from Brazil on May 9, each showing these elusive objects.
These phenomena have puzzled experts. The debate revolves around whether these objects are UFOs or part of the Starlink satellite constellation launched by Elon Musk’s SpaceX. Typically, Starlink satellites appear as strings of lights, resembling stars, moving slowly across the sky. However, they generally appear as distinct dots rather than solid cylinders and do not typically change colors.
Chris Spitzer, a UFO analysis expert, explained to DailyMail.com that newly deployed Starlink satellites can appear as solid lines due to their close grouping. “Starlink sats may look like oblong objects right after deployment when they reach Earth orbit because they are stacked together,” Spitzer noted. He provided an example of a meteor photo taken by a FedEx pilot, showing a white blob below it, similar to the objects seen by Vernet and others.
1. I am pretty sure Starlink sats ALSO generate UFO sightings right after they are deployed when they reflect sunlight. They are released in one batch with two clamps parallel to each other where they are stacked together. This could explain some recent sightings/videos of pic.twitter.com/MqLjKJ3b8l

Reflecting sunlight could make these satellites appear as bright, mysterious objects. On May 6, coinciding with the sightings in Argentina and Chile, a Starlink satellite launched from Cape Canaveral. Another launch occurred on May 8, the day of the Uruguay border sighting. While there was no launch on April 29, the day Vernet recorded his video, a launch did occur the previous evening.
Vernet, a prominent UFO researcher and founder of UAPBrazil.com, remains skeptical. “The only explanation for me would be Starlink, but no satellite train was visible at the time of the sighting,” he told DailyMail.com.
