GOP Faces Opposition Backed by Elon Musk

Elon Musk is speaking out against Republicans and is ready to back their opponents in the 2026 primary.

Musk is disgruntled over President Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful” budget bill, which is now before the Senate for vote.

The former head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has taken to X, the social media platform he owns, to warn members of Congress who vote in favor of the bill that he is ready to back any future opponent to unseat them.

“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!” Musk wrote. “And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”

Former Rep. Justin Amash responded to the post by urging Musk to support Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who voted against the bill.

“Please support @RepThomasMassie. The establishment is working to primary him because he’s a genuine fiscal conservative and opposes the Big, Bloated Scam,” Amash posted.

Musk replied, “I will.”

Musk also said he would help Massie financially. The congressman expressed his gratitude.

“Exposing the worst parts of the Big Beautiful Bill and reasserting Congressional War Powers has recently earned me the ire of the swamp and a fight for my re-election, but my re-election isn’t really about either of those issues specifically,” Massie told Fox News Digital on Tuesday. “It’s a referendum on whether members of Congress can think and act independently based on what’s best for the country, or whether all members of congress must be reduced to rubber stamps for their respective political parties and swampy special interests.

“I’m extremely thankful to have Elon Musk’s financial assistance to continue my mission as an independent voice in Congress for my constituents,” Massie added.

When he was part of the DOGE, Musk’s role was to cut wasteful spending.

He pointed out in another post the hypocrisy of those who ran on the premise of reduced spending voting for the bill.

“Anyone who campaigned on the PROMISE of REDUCING SPENDING , but continues to vote on the BIGGEST DEBT ceiling increase in HISTORY will see their face on this poster in the primary next year,” Musk posted with a graphic featuring Pinocchio.

Another political party is possible to give Americans a voice in government, Musk said.

“If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,” he posted. “Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.”

And he has the numbers to back that up.

In June, he started a poll, asking if a third political party is needed. The overwhelming answer was yes with 80.4% of the vote compared to 19.6% who voted no.

The two started to clash as Trump announced his bill that cut tax credits for electric vehicles, per Mediaite. Musk owns Tesla, which is an EV company.

Trump responded to Musk early Tuesday morning and said Musk knew how the president felt about EVs.

“Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate. It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one,” Trump wrote. “Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.”

“No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!” Trump wrote.
