In a heartfelt and emotional announcement, beloved *Today* show co-anchor Hoda Kotb revealed she will be stepping away from her role early next year, marking the end of a remarkable nearly seven-year run as one of the main faces of the morning program. The 60-year-old Kotb, who has been with NBC News for an astonishing 26 years, shared the news live on air with her colleagues and viewers on Thursday morning. Fighting back tears, Kotb spoke about how reaching the milestone of turning 60 had inspired a “monumental” moment in her life, leading her to make the difficult decision to “try something new.”

Kotb’s departure is not only a personal reflection of her own life changes but also a significant moment in the television world. With a reported salary of $8 million a year, Kotb has been a central figure on “Today,” balancing her long-running career with personal joys, including becoming a mother later in life. She noted that her young daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5, were a major factor in her choice, stating they deserve “a bigger piece of my time pie.” Kotb, known for her warmth and emotional honesty, apologized for her tears, though her co-hosts quickly brushed off the need for any apology.

In a letter penned to her colleagues, Kotb reflected on her 26 years at NBC, recounting the friendships and professional bonds she’s built over the years. “My time at NBC has been the longest professional love affair of my life,” she wrote, calling out her co-hosts and production team for their unwavering support. Special tributes were paid to Savannah Guthrie, Jenna Bush Hager, and Al Roker—anchors with whom she shares a deep connection. Guthrie praised Kotb for her courage, stating, “You inspire me,” while Hager and Roker expressed how much Kotb’s presence would be missed, despite her promises to remain close.

Kotb’s upcoming departure adds yet another chapter to her already storied career. Her decision to leave, while painful, reflects her desire to focus on family while acknowledging the personal growth that lies ahead. She assured viewers that, though stepping away from her daily hosting duties, she remains deeply connected to the “Today” family and will continue to be a part of the NBC family in some capacity.
