McDonald’s Prays New Bargain Will Bring Back Customers

McDonald’s is encouraging its franchisees to offer a $5 meal deal to attract budget-conscious customers despite the rise in inflation.

This deal would include a McDouble or a McChicken, along with fries and a drink. The fast food giant has reportedly suggested this deal to its U.S. franchisees for the second time in response to a dip in sales due to lower-income customers eating more meals at home.

The rise in the cost of living has affected global restaurant chains, such as McDonald’s and Starbucks, as they struggle to cater to lower-income consumers. These chains have been forced to offer steeper promotions in an attempt to entice customers back to their outlets.

Acknowledging the value-seeking behavior of all income groups, McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski recently mentioned on a post-earnings call that the company needs to address this issue.

“I think it’s important to recognize that all income cohorts are seeking value,” CEO Chris Kempczinski said last month on a post-earnings call.

As a result, McDonald’s has seen a slowdown in global sales growth for the fourth quarter in a row. To turn things around, the company has proposed the $5 meal deal, targeting budget-conscious customers who are avoiding eating out due to increasing costs.

Following the news, McDonald’s shares increased by 2%, trading at $272.80. The company has yet to respond to requests for comment.
