Ohio Candidate Arrested After Alleged Home Break-In

A former Cincinnati City Council candidate is behind bars after allegedly breaking into the home of a congressional candidate who had previously obtained a restraining order against him. The early-morning incident has stunned local voters just days before Election Day and added another layer to an already tangled and tense relationship between the two political hopefuls.

According to WLWT, police arrested 39-year-old Kevin Farmer at approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday, after he allegedly broke into the Westwood residence of Rosemary Oglesby-Henry, a Republican running for Ohio’s 1st Congressional District. Prosecutors say Oglesby-Henry captured security video showing Farmer smashing through a garage window to gain entry to her home.

Farmer now faces burglary and restraining order violation charges. The incident came only hours after he announced publicly that he would be withdrawing from his campaign for Cincinnati City Council, though his name will still appear on the ballot in Tuesday’s municipal election.

Police arrived at the home shortly after the break-in was reported. Oglesby-Henry was home at the time, according to local reports, but there were no injuries reported. Authorities say they are reviewing both the video footage and the history of prior complaints involving the two.

That history has been anything but simple. In September, Oglesby-Henry was arrested for aggravated menacing after she allegedly pointed a gun at Farmer during a confrontation at her home. She denied the allegation, telling police and reporters that no firearm was ever found on her property. “While Mr. Farmer remains squatting in my home today, he used law enforcement to bring a false case against me and had me jailed without cause,” Oglesby-Henry said at the time. “He is an abuser, and I will not back down.”

Court records show that the pair’s disputes go back months. In July, Farmer was charged with assault and domestic violence against Oglesby-Henry, but she later dropped those charges. She did, however, obtain a protective order against him, which police say he violated during Saturday’s incident.

At his arraignment later that morning, Farmer appeared wearing a sweatshirt that read “God got me.” He did not enter a plea, and the judge ordered him held on bond. His campaign, which had previously focused on government transparency and community violence prevention, has not issued any public comment about his arrest. The Daily Caller reported that attempts to contact Farmer’s campaign team went unanswered.

Oglesby-Henry, who is running to unseat Democratic Representative Greg Landsman, has not commented publicly since the latest incident, but her campaign previously stated that she has faced months of harassment and property disputes involving Farmer.

Local voters have expressed confusion and frustration at the string of arrests and accusations between the two candidates. Both have made public safety and justice reform part of their political platforms, making the allegations even more striking.

Before his withdrawal from the council race, Farmer was campaigning as an independent candidate for one of nine at-large city council seats. He ran without the endorsement of either major political party.

Police have not released further details about the motive behind the alleged break-in or what Farmer’s intentions were once he entered the property. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities say they are working closely with the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office to determine whether additional charges should be filed.

Farmer is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center. Court records show that a hearing on his charges has been scheduled for later this week.

As Election Day gets closer, this situation is a clear reminder that voters aren’t just choosing policies- they’re choosing people. Personal behavior matters, especially when someone wants to lead a community. What’s been unfolding in Cincinnati shows just how quickly things can shift, and how messy it can get when personal drama spills into public life. Voters want leaders they can trust, not headlines like these.
