The 2023 season started off with a colossal thud for the New York Jets as their star quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, suffered what was later reported as a season-ending torn Achilles injury just 10 minutes into their season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

The injury occurred when Rodgers was sacked on the fourth play and could not walk it off. He was helped off the field, taken to a cart, and evaluated. It was a heartbreaking moment for the Jets and their fans, and the worst fears were confirmed when an MRI determined the extent of the injury.

The Jets had high hopes coming into the 2021 season behind Rodgers after piecing together what many believed was a Super Bowl-caliber roster. They had also been positively impressed with the veteran QB’s commitment to the team and his work ethic in practice.

However, the injury means that Rodgers will not be able to take the field for the rest of the season. Jets head coach Robert Saleh has already announced that Zach Wilson is now the starting quarterback.

While many teams deal with injuries during the season, it was particularly tough on the Jets to lose their most significant and crucial signee just four downs into the season. Saleh said he was particularly hurt for Rodgers despite his own disappointment.

“Personally, I don’t hurt for me. I don’t hurt for our locker room. I hurt for Aaron,” said the coach.

The entire Jets organization wished their QB a speedy recovery, but it won’t make up for the fact that he won’t be able to play the game he loves this season. This was a crushing blow for the Jets and their fans, and now they must begin adjusting their expectations for the rest of the season.
