Melania Trump is stepping into the spotlight on her own terms. The first lady gave Fox News an exclusive preview of her new documentary, Melania, which premieres Friday and offers unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to her life in the whirlwind weeks leading up to President Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration.
Joining The Five on Wednesday, Melania opened up about the 104-minute film — produced by Amazon MGM Studios — and what it was like to have cameras follow her “from morning ’til evening” as she managed family life, her return to the White House, business interests, and the duties of the East Wing.
“That was my life,” Melania said. “So, whatever I did, the cameras were following me… organizing, moving back to the White House, my family, preparing for inauguration, my business, my philanthropy.”

Long known for her intense privacy and selective public presence, Melania said the documentary offers a unique glimpse into her world — one that the public rarely sees.
“I’m a very private person and a very selective person — what I do, what I don’t do, when I talk, when I don’t talk,” she said. “That’s my choice. And nobody is in charge of me.”
Filmed across iconic locations like Trump Tower in New York, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, and the White House, the film gives an inside look at the demands and dynamics of life as Melania Trump — wife, mother, and first lady.
Melania, who served as the film’s executive producer, also reflected on her husband’s political journey. She said she always believed Donald Trump would eventually run for president — and win.
“I always told him, ‘If you do it, you will win,’ because I knew how much people loved him,” she said.
She also revealed that her son Barron, now 19, played a much bigger role in the 2024 campaign than many realized.
“He understands now, he’s involved,” Melania said. “He talks with his dad. He talks with me. He gave him all of the ideas — who he needs to talk to, all of these YouTubers and podcasts. He was really a smart mind behind it.”

When Jesse Watters asked whether she enjoys Trump’s now-famous YMCA dance, Melania didn’t hold back.
“I like it at certain times,” she laughed. “Some days were not appropriate, and I told him so — but it’s his dance, and I think people love it.”
Asked if any Secret Service agents tried to sneak into the documentary’s scenes, she answered with a smile: “No. Everybody — they’re very professional.”
With Melania, the first lady seems to be telling her story in full — not through media speculation or political spin, but through a lens she controls. And for once, it’s not Donald Trump at center stage.
