Security tackled a man to the ground Tuesday night after he rushed Rep. Ilhan Omar during a town hall in Minneapolis and sprayed her with an unidentified liquid. The shocking moment unfolded while Omar was speaking at the podium during her first in-person event of 2026.
Crowd members erupted in alarm, shouting that Omar had been hit with “something,” as security acted swiftly to subdue the assailant. Video footage shows Omar pointing and yelling at the man in the seconds before a guard grabbed him and wrestled him to the ground.
However, many are saying this attack was staged.

Even as staffers and attendees urged Omar to get checked out and end the town hall early, she defiantly refused. “We will continue. These f*cking a*sholes will not get away with this,” she shouted, returning to the podium to press on with her remarks.
The incident comes at a time of mounting controversy surrounding the Minnesota Democrat. President Donald Trump announced just days ago that the federal government is investigating Omar’s finances and potential immigration fraud. “The DOJ and Congress are looking at ‘Congresswoman’ Ilhan Omar,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, claiming she arrived in the U.S. “with NOTHING” and is now worth more than $44 million.

Long-running suspicions about Omar’s immigration history—specifically allegations she may have married her brother—have resurfaced. While those accusations have dogged her for years, scrutiny is intensifying as the Department of Justice zeroes in on fraud cases involving the Somali community in the Twin Cities. Dozens of Somali residents have been arrested for allegedly defrauding taxpayers.

The New York Times recently revealed that an investigation into Omar’s finances may have started as early as 2024 under the Biden administration. On top of that, the House Oversight Committee, led by Rep. James Comer (R-KY), is probing Omar and her husband’s growing wealth.
Omar has repeatedly denied wrongdoing, calling the investigations politically motivated. “Years of ‘investigations’ have found nothing,” she said Monday. “Get your goons out of Minnesota.”

But the pressure isn’t easing. With federal investigators circling and public backlash growing, Tuesday’s outburst at her town hall may just be the beginning of a much rougher year for one of Congress’s most controversial figures.
