The Petition That Was Hidden in Plain Sight
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani quietly signed a petition this spring that names Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as the most viable left contender for president in 2028. The document came from the Democratic Socialists of America’s New York City chapter. It was not reported until Politico scooped the story this week. Mamdani signed the paper even though he told reporters he would not publicly endorse her yet.
The petition asked for support for AOC’s reelection to the House this year. But it also pushed her name for the White House four years from now. The Washington Examiner contacted Mamdani’s office to confirm the signature. An anonymous adviser told Politico that Mamdani joined other DSA officials in signing the paper. The group collected nearly 600 signatures before voting to back her for the 2026 midterm elections.
A Strategy of Silence and Secret Support
Mamdani has stayed quiet on a full endorsement. During a July interview with the New York Times, he stated it was too early to discuss a potential 2028 campaign. He noted that she has not even announced her run yet. Despite this public caution, the two leaders remain closely aligned. Advance notice of their endorsements was exchanged by them before New York’s June 23 primaries.
Mamdani informed AOC of his intention to support socialist Darializa Avila Chevalier rather than incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat. He did this even though he had agreed to support Espaillat last year. In a similar vein, AOC told Mamdani that she intended to support three socialist candidates challenging incumbents in the state assembly. Every candidate they backed won their primary this summer. This shows a tight bond between the mayor and the congresswoman.
What This Means for Conservative Families
This move signals a clear shift in the Democratic party. They are already planning a 2028 lineup while the current term is barely halfway done. AOC told ABC News last month that she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of running. She further expressed that she feels very humbled by the tremendous amount of support out there. If she runs, she will push policies that hurt working families and raise your taxes.
She has also floated the idea of running for the Senate instead of the White House. She could target the seat held by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. That seat will be up for election in 2028. The goal is to lock in progressive control for a decade. This is not just about one election; it is about reshaping the country.
We need to watch how these socialist ties grow stronger every day. The petition proves they are organized and ready to take power. They do not care about your values or your wallet. They only care about expanding their own influence. We must stay alert and vote for leaders who protect our freedom.
