WaPo Reporter Comments on Hamas During CNN Interview

Well, it didn’t take long, did it? We’ve barely caught our breath from the horrors of October 7, and now here comes The Washington Post — always eager to deliver the world’s worst hot takes with a straight face — floating the idea that maybe, just maybe, we should cut Hamas some slack.

Yes, really.

Columnist Shadi Hamid, while chatting with CNN’s Brianna Keilar, actually said out loud — on national television — that Israel shouldn’t root out every member of Hamas. Not only that, but he argued that low-level members of the terrorist group should be offered amnesty or “safe passage” out of Gaza.

Let’s pause right there.

Imagine, for just a moment, that you’re an Israeli family who lost your child, your wife, your parents — or all three — in a brutal, coordinated, barbaric massacre that was live-streamed. You’ve spent weeks burying bodies, identifying charred remains, and praying for the return of hostages who may never come home. And now, some Beltway think-tank hero is suggesting the terrorists’ foot soldiers deserve… what? A second chance?

Sorry, but no.

Hamid didn’t stop there. He continued explaining that Hamas is a “popular movement,” and that it wouldn’t be wise to try and “eradicate every single member.” And just when you thought the argument couldn’t get any worse, he did the unthinkable: he compared the situation to post-WWII denazification, claiming low- and mid-level Nazis were allowed back into German society, so maybe we should take the same approach with Hamas.

Yes. Nazis. On live television. As the model for “reintegrating” Hamas.

This is where we are, folks.

This is the elite D.C. media mindset — the same one that calls looting “reparations,” that says the border is “secure,” and that thinks disarming law-abiding Americans is the real key to stopping crime. These are the people shaping the national conversation on how to deal with actual terrorists.

Let’s be clear: there is no “low-level” version of evil here. Hamas is not a misunderstood political party with a few bad apples. They are a U.S.-designated terrorist organization that has made genocide a central part of their charter. Their members — top, middle, bottom — are trained, radicalized, and eager to carry out violence.

And now we’re supposed to reward that with safe passage?

The worst part? This is happening while President Trump is the one finally moving the ball forward. His administration managed to broker a peace deal that at least stops the bloodshed and provides a roadmap for the future — one that Israel is understandably cautious about, especially if it involves keeping any slice of Hamas in the picture.

But instead of asking how we can guarantee security, protect Israeli civilians, and dismantle a terror network, the media’s new favorite question is: How do we make sure Hamas members don’t feel left out?

It’s absolute madness. And yet it’s treated as serious policy commentary on legacy outlets like CNN and The Washington Post — both of which are apparently more concerned about rehabilitating the reputations of terrorists than protecting the innocent civilians who’ve already been torn apart by their ideology.

So here’s the reality check that polite media circles don’t want to admit: you can’t have peace with people who don’t believe your side deserves to exist. You don’t integrate a death cult into your democracy. You dismantle it, root and stem.

But sure, let’s offer amnesty to the guys who helped load the trucks, build the tunnels, hold the hostages. Because nothing says “forward progress” like giving mass murderers a participation trophy and a spot in Parliament.

God help us if this is what the new “moderate” looks like.
