Trump Discusses Long-Term Venezuela Involvement

Oh, so now regime change is a bad thing? Interesting. You’d think the same folks who cheered on every foreign entanglement from Libya to Syria would at least pretend to understand the concept of removing a brutal dictator who’s been starving his people and playing footsie with China, Iran, and Russia for the better part of a decade. But apparently, because it’s President Donald Trump doing it — now it’s some kind of illegal imperialist crime. Funny how that works.

Over the weekend, the Trump administration did what no one else dared to do: capture Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro. Not “negotiate,” not “pressure,” not “issue sternly worded condemnations from a podium in Geneva.” Nope. Captured. As in, he’s no longer calling the shots, and Trump isn’t exactly shy about what happens next. In an interview with The New York Times — which, by the way, is probably still recovering from having to print the words “President Trump” again — he laid it out plainly: the U.S. will be running Venezuela until a stable transition happens.

But wait, there’s more. Trump even said it might be longer than a year — because unlike previous administrations, this one isn’t interested in setting artificial deadlines just to make it look like they’re “doing something.” He said “only time will tell,” which, of course, set off the D.C. outrage machine into full-blown panic mode.

Congressional Democrats wasted no time accusing Trump of allegedly engaging in an “illegal regime change.” Now let’s pause there. These are the same Democrats who were silent — or better yet, supportive — when Obama and Hillary left Libya in flaming ruins after turning on Gaddafi. They had no problem with sending pallets of cash to Iran. But Trump taking out an anti-American socialist strongman who’s been literally starving his own citizens? That’s where they draw the line. Sure, makes total sense.

Trump, for his part, seems unfazed. He told The Times that Venezuela could be “making money” once its infrastructure is rebuilt — and yes, he said we’re taking oil. Cue the pearl-clutching. But let’s get real for a second: Venezuela has one of the largest oil reserves on the planet. Its economy is in ruins, and its people are desperate. You know what’s better than letting Russia and China grab up those resources while people starve? Using that oil to bring down global prices and stabilize the region. Call it what you want — Trump calls it rebuilding “in a very profitable way.”

And let’s not ignore the media obsession over why Trump didn’t back Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado. The New York Times breathlessly reported that CIA intelligence and some behind-the-scenes friction made the administration skeptical of her. Trump didn’t bite. He just said Secretary of State Marco Rubio — yes, you read that right, Secretary Rubio — talks to her “all the time.” Translation? The adults are running the show, and they’re not interested in virtue signaling. They’re interested in results.

At the end of the day, what’s really eating the left alive here is that Trump did what they never could — he acted decisively, strategically, and unapologetically. Instead of dragging the country into another endless war, he executed a clean, high-level removal, stabilized a collapsing neighbor, and is now laying the groundwork for both profit and humanitarian impact. All without dragging American troops into a years-long occupation.

But hey, keep crying “regime change” like it’s still 2003. Meanwhile, oil prices are falling, the border is more secure, and tyrants around the world are getting the message: there’s a new sheriff in town. Again.
