Crockett Hit With Fresh Questions After Condo Lien Surfaces

Rep. Jasmine Crockett is facing renewed questions about her financial management after records revealed she has carried an unpaid lien on her Dallas condominium for more than a year.

According to Fox News, a notice filed on April 11, 2024, by the Westside Condominium Association shows that Crockett owes $3,047.79 in unpaid assessments.

The document states that the congresswoman “is in default in her obligation for payment of assessments and has failed and refused and continues to fail and refuse, despite demand upon her, to pay the Association assessments and related charges properly levied against the Property.”

Under the lien, the association has a legal claim on the condo, preventing Crockett from selling or transferring the unit until the overdue balance is settled.

The Dallas County Clerk’s Office confirmed there is no record of the lien being released. Crockett’s office did not respond to requests for comment by publication time.

Crockett purchased the condo in 2014. Listings for the gated Westside Condominiums describe the property as a community designed to offer a “refreshing retreat,” complete with a pool, clubhouse, and spa-style interiors.

HOA fees at the complex range from $222 to $403 per month and include maintenance, sewer, and water services.

The lien is the latest issue drawing scrutiny to the Texas Democrat, who has recently faced criticism over her campaign spending.

Federal Election Commission filings show nearly $75,000 in donor money spent this year on luxury hotels, transportation, and security across several major cities, even though Crockett represents a district anchored in Dallas.

Her travel expenses include thousands of dollars at the Ritz-Carlton, The Luxury Collection, the West Hollywood Edition, the Times Square Edition, and resorts in Las Vegas and Martha’s Vineyard. Additional filings list limousine services from companies in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and the Bay Area.

Crockett’s campaign also spent nearly $50,000 on security this year. The spending drew particular attention because she had previously voiced support for the “defund the police” movement.

In 2021, she argued the push to shift funding was aimed at “finally being smart on crime” and “addressing the root causes of crime.”

Critics say the string of controversies paints a troubling picture.

“The more we learn about Jasmine Crockett, the more clear it is that she’s the worst possible candidate to run for Senate in Texas,” one longtime Democratic strategist told Fox News Digital.

“Recent weeks have shown she’s just not ready for primetime.”

Crockett has attracted widespread attention this year not only for her spending but for a series of public clashes, including a comment referring to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels,” which drew bipartisan condemnation. She has since said she is “seriously weighing” a run against Sen. John Cornyn, with a decision expected on Dec. 8.

Cornyn is seeking a fifth term and faces a competitive primary featuring Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Rep. Wesley Hunt.

As Crockett considers her next political move, the unresolved lien adds yet another hurdle — and more questions — for a rising Democratic figure already under intense statewide and national scrutiny.
