Hello everyone! Today, we have a scary incident at Tampa International Airport to discuss. Buckle up; we have a lot to share.
Recently, an incident occurred at Tampa International Airport involving an American Airlines flight destined for Phoenix. A blown landing gear tire caused a delay. Visualize being on that plane—it’s like a scene straight out of a blockbuster film.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the episode certainly made for a dramatic morning. The plane, carrying 174 passengers and a crew of six, had to be evacuated. Everyone was safely transported back to the terminal.
Adding to this real-life drama, there’s a video on YouTube that portrays the airplane taxiing on the runway when suddenly its right-rear tire begins to smoke and then collapses! It’s akin to watching a suspense film unfold.
According to People,
A social media user claiming to have been on the flight commented underneath Markovich’s video that the plane was “halfway down the runway and getting up to speed when we heard [a] loud bang and felt a shudder and braked hard.”
“There wasn’t much runway left when we finally stopped, fully loaded and four hours of fuel. When we stopped, the captain said the firetrucks were coming only out of an abundance of caution, but from row 30, we could see flames,” the traveler recalled, noting that the “tires on one side shredded and burned, the other two were flat.”
“I’m very appreciative the pilot kept it under control, and it didn’t blow out any later in the takeoff,” the commenter added.

In the end, all was well. The passengers were transferred to a replacement flight. The comforting news? The incident didn’t disrupt other flight operations at Tampa International Airport.
“American Airlines flight 590 with service from Tampa (TPA) to Phoenix (PHX) experienced a mechanical issue on the runway prior to taking off,” a spokesperson for the airline said. “Customers safely deplaned and were bussed to the terminal. We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
