A shocking controversy has erupted on social media over a Gen Z employee who refused to attend an 8 a.m. meeting because of their “workout class.” The entitled young employee sparked outrage when they defended their refusal, claiming that it was a matter of their “work-life balance.” What happened to good old-fashioned work ethic and dedication to the job?
The drama began when the hosts of the podcast Demoted, Natalie Marie and Ross Pomerantz, shared their reaction to an email they received from a listener. The email detailed the listener’s frustration with their Gen Z employee who refused to attend an important meeting because it conflicted with their workout class. The hosts’ response was one of disbelief and anger, with Natalie exclaiming, “I don’t give a flying s*** about your workout class!” and Ross declaring, “Are you f***ing kidding me?”
Their outrage is completely understandable. After all, this employee is being paid a salary and is expected to dedicate their time to their job. But apparently, for this Gen Z employee, personal time is more important than work commitments.

But the drama didn’t stop there. A Gen Z TikTok creator, Alexandre Evidente, added fuel to the fire with his own viral response video. In the video, he took on the role of the employee and questioned whether he should be reprimanded for refusing to attend meetings outside of his work hours. He even went as far as to demand reimbursement for his missed workout class and an extra hour of pay. The nerve!
Viewers of Evidente’s video praised him for standing up to his employer and not giving in to the pressure of working outside of designated work hours. Some even blamed older generations for creating a work culture where employees are expected to sacrifice their personal time for work. But let’s not forget that personal responsibility and dedication to one’s job used to be highly valued traits.
Natalie and Ross received a lot of backlash for their initial reaction to the email and were forced to take down their video. But let’s be real, they were absolutely right in their response. As Natalie clarified later, the employee in question was being paid a salary and knew about the meeting well in advance. Plus, the meeting only occurred once every quarter. Is it really too much to ask for an employee to prioritize their job over a leisure activity?
As a survey by The Muse showed, the majority of people believe that hard work and personal sacrifices are necessary to succeed in one’s career. This seems to hold true across all generations, except for the entitled Gen Z and millennials who believe they are entitled to a perfect work-life balance without putting in the necessary effort.
My Gen Z people how true is this?😂😂 #KissFmVideos 🎬@Alexandre Evidente pic.twitter.com/0gid8dqyES

This whole debacle has exposed the entitled and lazy mindset of the younger generation. It’s time for Gen Z and millennials to stop expecting handouts and start taking responsibility for their actions. Work-life balance is important, but not at the cost of slacking off on the job. It’s time to put in the hard work and dedication that our older generations have instilled in us.
