Minnesota Church Issues Statement After Protest Incident

In a scene that looked more like a radical protest rally than anything resembling civil discourse, a group of anti-ICE activists stormed into a Minnesota church service last Sunday, shouting over prayers, frightening children, and accusing the pastor—wrongly—of being tied to ICE.

The target? Cities Church in St. Paul, where congregants were peacefully worshiping when the agitators barged in with chants, accusations, and chaos. Apparently, the protesters believed—without evidence—that one of the pastors had connections to immigration enforcement. So, naturally, their response was to trample on religious liberty and disrupt a house of worship.

Let that sink in: these self-proclaimed justice warriors thought the best way to “fight oppression” was to interrupt a religious gathering and terrify families trying to pray.

And if that wasn’t bad enough, Don Lemon—yes, the recently ousted CNN figure—was at the center of the media spin machine, labeling the innocent parishioners as “entitled” and even insinuating that the congregation had ties to “white supremacy.” He and podcast host Jennifer Welch didn’t stop there. They went so far as to mock their Christianity, as if openly worshiping Jesus is now some kind of social offense.

The backlash was swift. Cities Church released a powerful statement calling the protest “shameful” and “unlawful,” and reaffirmed their commitment to Jesus Christ, peace, and public worship. But they didn’t stop there—they also made clear they won’t be pushed around.

“In the name of justice, they frightened children and accosted worshipers,” the church said. “Such conduct is shameful, unlawful, and will not be tolerated.”

They went on to explain, with grace and clarity, that while respectful dialogue is welcome, this kind of mob behavior has no place in a house of worship—or a civil society.

But the kicker came in their final words: “We are evaluating next steps with our legal counsel.”

Good. Because freedom of religion is still protected in this country. And if radical mobs think they can silence churches through fear and disruption, they’re in for a rude awakening—possibly with some serious legal consequences attached.
