Ah, New York City — where the rats outnumber the residents, the rent costs more than a college degree, and now, thanks to Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, it’s apparently open season on federal immigration enforcement. Because nothing says “leadership” quite like posting an instructional video on how to undermine federal law while sipping your ethically sourced oat milk latte.
Yes, you heard that right. On Sunday, Mamdani — a man whose job will be to enforce the law — took to X (formerly known as Twitter, back when sanity still existed), to post a sleek little PSA showing New Yorkers how to legally — and let’s be honest, barely legally — push back against ICE agents. The caption? “Know your rights. Protect your neighbors. New York is — and always will be — a city for all immigrants.” Translation: “We’re not really interested in the difference between legal and illegal immigration, and we’re happy to broadcast that to the world.”
The whole video was less “public service announcement” and more “ACLU legal boot camp for aspiring obstructionists.” Mamdani, who seems more eager to protect lawbreakers than law-abiding citizens, calmly explained how to stop ICE at your doorstep, pointing out that agents need a judicial warrant signed by a judge to enter private property. That’s true.
What he failed to mention? If ICE is there, it’s probably for a reason. But don’t worry — he brought props, showing the difference between an administrative removal warrant (used every day in enforcement) and a judicial warrant, which ICE doesn’t typically carry because — stay with me here — they’re a civil enforcement agency, not the FBI.
But legal nuance isn’t Mamdani’s strong suit. Grandstanding is. He went on to say ICE is “legally allowed to lie to you” and encouraged people to keep asking, “Am I free to go?” while also filming officers and standing their ground. So basically, he’s encouraging viral resistance theater — because what could possibly go wrong when you film federal officers and bait them into confrontations?

Now, let’s just take a breath and ask the question nobody in the mainstream press will: What kind of mayor tells people how to dodge immigration enforcement while ICE is reportedly going after individuals with violent criminal records? Are we really doing this? Is the plan here to make New York safer for everyone except the people who live there legally, pay their taxes, and follow the rules?
Yes we know you love illegals and hate Americans. You don’t have to remind us.
Also, you’re going to be deported.

And before anyone starts clutching pearls about compassion — yes, America is a nation of immigrants. We’re also a nation of laws. And when you’ve got a system already buckling under the weight of record illegal border crossings, drug trafficking, and gang activity, the last thing we need is a city leader playing defense for people who allegedly entered the country unlawfully. Some of whom, let’s not forget, may be wanted for more than just a paperwork issue.
Mamdani didn’t stop at legal tips. He threw in a warm little line about the right to protest — you know, just in case things get really dramatic and your local ICE raid needs to turn into a march with handmade signs and NPR reporters. Because New York isn’t just a “sanctuary city” anymore. It’s becoming a sanctuary from federal authority.
And here’s the punchline: this guy isn’t even mayor yet. He doesn’t take office until January, but he’s already using his platform to chip away at federal enforcement agencies. Imagine what the actual policies will look like once he has the keys to City Hall. Will we see taxpayer-funded legal defense for deportation cases? Will NYPD officers be told to stand down if ICE is in the area? Don’t bet against it.

Mayor-elect Mamdani says New York will “always welcome immigrants.” That’s fine. That’s great, actually — legal immigrants deserve a shot at the American Dream. But if the plan is to turn the city into a guidebook for how to evade deportation and thumb your nose at immigration law? That’s not welcoming. That’s chaos.
And when the consequences come knocking, just like ICE did on Canal Street, don’t expect Mamdani to answer the door. He’ll be too busy filming his next resistance reel.
