On Sunday in Michigan, Rapper Nicki Minaj donned a complete Gucci ensemble to attend a rally with President Trump. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung shared a video of their arrival and joked about her new role.
Minaj stepped off Air Force One alongside the president at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. She is a vocal supporter who has increasingly embraced the president’s economic agenda. According to the New York Post, Minaj was born in Trinidad and Tobago before moving to the US as a child. It remains unclear if she has become an American citizen and can vote in this election.
A Key Voice for the Midterms
Minaj told the Washington Examiner that she believes the upcoming election is critical for the country. “This midterm election is the most important of our lifetimes,” Minaj said during an interview on Sunday morning. She emphasized the need for a strong team in Congress to support the president’s final two years. Minaj remarked, “We need to make sure President Trump has a strong, effective team in Congress for his final two years in office so he can continue delivering transformative programs like Trump Accounts, which I am proud to support”
In Port Huron, Michigan, she appeared officially on the campaign trail with the president for the first time. The pair traveled to the Wolverine State to support former Rep. Mike Rogers for the open U.S. Senate seat. Minaj also praised Trump’s personal qualities during a September interview. “He’s not just smart, and he’s not just the president, but he’s also just someone I can relate to, someone that, you know, every time I see him, or every time I see him speaking to other people, he’s just himself,” she said.
Celebrity Allies and New Roles
This event marks a high point in Minaj’s deepening role as a celebrity ally for the president. Ahead of the Trump Accounts launch last summer, she spoke at the Treasury Department’s January summit. Her presence highlights the broad support the president has gathered from various public figures. Other stars like Jason Aldean and Mike Alstott have also traveled with Trump to recent rallies.
Steven Cheung’s playful comment about the press secretary job reflects the close bond between the campaign and its supporters. The post follows the resignation of Katie Zachariah, who left the position after only five days on the job.
