‘No Words Can Take this Pain Away!’: LU Football Player Dies at 19

The Liberty University community was shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of freshman offensive lineman Tajh Boyd. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Boyd was a standout athlete in high school, having played for the Oscar Smith High School football team in Chesapeake, Virginia. His coach at the time, Chris Scott, remembers him fondly.

“Tajh’s impact went far beyond statistics and accolades,” Scott shared. “Yes, he was a formidable force on the football field, but it was his infectious smile, his positive energy, and his ability to uplift others that truly made him larger than life.”

At Liberty, Boyd was an impactful and beloved member of the team. His coaches and teammates praised his character and drive to succeed. Liberty head coach Jamey Chadwell said, “We grieve together as a family and will seek guidance, comfort and understanding from the Lord during these difficult times.”

The team’s strength and speed coach, Chad Scott, also commented on Boyd: “Love you and appreciate our time together! You had a huge smile that could light up any room. Would love to give you one more hug and tell you I love you forever.”

Fans of the Liberty Athletics team took to social media to share their condolences, saying that Boyd will be missed and remembered dearly. Tajh Boyd is survived by his parents, Tanzania Belfield and Dawntay Boyd.

In a time of tragedy, it can be comforting to remember the impact of people like Tajh Boyd, who left an incredible footprint on his community.

His positive attitude and enormous heart have made an impression on the Liberty Athletics family, leaving them with an unfillable void.
