Trump Administration Requests Food Stamp Data

Well, it looks like the gravy train might finally be pulling into the station — and not a moment too soon. During Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins dropped what can only be described as a policy bombshell on the nation’s sprawling food stamp program, also known as SNAP. And let’s just say, if you’re a fan of common sense, fiscal responsibility, or the idea that dead people shouldn’t be getting government benefits, this one’s worth paying attention to.

Rollins reported that under President Trump’s leadership, around 800,000 people have already moved off SNAP. That’s 800,000 fewer dependents on a system that was originally designed as a safety net — not a lifestyle. According to Rollins, the real issue now isn’t just ballooning costs or questionable eligibility. It’s fraud, and lots of it.

We’re talking 500,000 people receiving benefits in more than one state. A few even managed to collect food stamps in six different states. That’s not just a paperwork error — that’s a full-time hustle. And if that sounds outrageous, buckle up: Rollins also revealed that over 186,000 deceased individuals were allegedly receiving SNAP benefits. Yes, six feet under and still somehow cashing in on federal aid. The only thing scarier than zombie voters is zombie welfare recipients.

So how did we get here? According to Rollins, it’s simple: too many states — surprise, mostly blue ones — have flat-out refused to share recipient data with the federal government. California, New York, and Minnesota were among 21 states that ignored a February request from the USDA to hand over basic information like names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers. You know, the kind of stuff you’d think would be required when applying for federal money.

As Rollins put it, “We had a couple of people receiving benefits in six states.” And yet, when asked to help clean it up, more than a dozen states essentially said, “No thanks.” So starting next week, the Trump administration is doing what it does best — putting its foot down. Rollins announced that those 21 states will start losing federal funding unless they agree to full transparency and data-sharing.

You can almost hear the outrage from the usual corners of the Twitter-verse. But Rollins didn’t hold back, calling the SNAP program “abused for far too long” and blasting the previous administration for expanding food stamp spending by 40% — which, she noted, just happened to be during an election year. Her words: “President Biden — working to buy [the] election a year ago.”

To be clear, this isn’t about punishing the poor. Rollins said the goal is to rebuild the program from the ground up, ensure every recipient re-applies, and restore SNAP to what it was meant to be: temporary assistance for Americans who literally cannot survive without it. That means no more double-dipping, no more payouts to the deceased, and no more benefits for those who aren’t legally supposed to be in the country.

Rollins also didn’t shy away from calling out what she sees as political obstruction. She claimed Democrats are blocking oversight because their strategy “depends on protecting illegal aliens.” And while that statement is sure to spark a round of headlines, she backed it up with numbers — fraud uncovered so far is only from the 29 mostly red states that complied with the USDA’s request. In other words, we haven’t even seen what’s hiding in the blue-state files.

“Can you imagine when we get our hands on the blue-state data?” Rollins asked. Honestly, at this point, it’s not hard to imagine at all.

So here we are: the Trump administration is drawing a hard line, red states are mostly cooperating, and blue states are digging in their heels. Meanwhile, the American taxpayer is footing the bill for a system that, until now, didn’t even bother checking if recipients were alive — or legal.

If you’re wondering whether this could become a defining fight ahead of the 2026 midterms, you’re not alone. Because one thing’s for sure — when it comes to cleaning up government waste, Brooke Rollins just made it clear: no state gets a free pass, and no dead man gets a dinner.
