Abdul El-Sayed mocked the skin color of Usha Vance’s four young children in a tweet. The Michigan Senate candidate took a cruel jab at the young family. Usha Vance laughed off the vile comment and called it nonsense. She told reporters she never met her husband’s grandparents but knows their love. The second lady said she has always felt embraced by her family in Ohio.
El-Sayed tried to twist Vice President JD Vance’s mention of his grandfather. The vice president said his “Papaw” would be shocked by El-Sayed’s views. Then El-Sayed sneered, “So we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no” He implied the grandfather would hate a woman of Indian descent. This was a direct attack on her heritage and her children.
Usha Vance responded with grace during an interview with Fox News. “I kind of laughed because, yes, I never met JD’s Mamaw and Papaw,” she said. She added that she loves the children those grandparents raised. His mom, aunt, and uncle have been incredibly loving to her. She called his aunt “like a second mother” to her own children.
Why The Smear Fails
El-Sayed is running for the Senate seat in Michigan against Mike Rogers. He won his primary last month by defeating a candidate with Senate backing. The New York Post reported he used this attack to distract from his own radical views. He previously declared his “obligation” to follow Sharia law until the day he dies. This stance conflicts with American values and the working-class roots JD Vance champions.
The Democrat candidate assumes all white Midwestern grandparents are racist bigots. Rep. Mike Rogers and others quickly pointed out this insult to ordinary Americans. Usha Vance noted that Ohio is culturally diverse and the people are welcoming. She said her expectations were “blown up” when she first visited the state. The Vances have four young children, including an infant born just a month ago. Attacking a mother’s family while she cares for a newborn shows a lack of character.
JD Vance’s grandfather worked as a welder for forty years and voted Democrat. He did so because he believed it was the party of union men. The vice president said his grandpa would never accept a candidate who calls critics white supremacists. El-Sayed’s tweet tried to paint the Vance family as hateful. The reality is that the Vances are a family built on hard work and love.
A Lesson in Character
This moment shows the difference between a bully and a leader. El-Sayed tried to use race to score cheap political points. Usha Vance refused to play his game or get angry. She simply stated the truth about the love she receives from her husband’s family. Her response proves that grace is a stronger weapon than hate. The second lady said she would have “really, really, really loved” to meet her grandparents. She believes they would have been loving people because of how they raised their kids.
