The Split Confirmed
Republican Reps. Beth Van Duyne and Rich McCormick have ended their more than two-year romance on Capitol Hill. The New York Post reported the break-up after the couple dated since at least the summer of 2024. McCormick confirmed the split to TMZ but said he hopes to stay friends. It remains unclear exactly what caused the lawmakers to call off their relationship.
Their offices did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the press. Sources told The Post that the pair had been together for over a year before going public. They were spotted holding hands under a table during a GOP lunch before the news broke. McCormick, who is 57, filed for divorce earlier this year.
What They Said
McCormick told reporters he has a great relationship with Van Duyne and wants to keep it that way. He stated, “My bond with her is wonderful, and I will keep trying to be the best friend possible. Van Duyne first acknowledged the link in May 2024 while speaking to the Daily Mail. She described herself as “happily engaged in a relationship with the Texas congressman at that time.
She noted that both are parents of adult children and empty nesters. McCormick admitted that relationships are hard but noted that “DC makes it easy.”
Timeline of Events
The couple appeared to still be together as recently as July. Just months earlier, TMZ spotted them walking together outside the Capitol Building. That sighting suggests the split happened sometime between July and the current report. The exact date they called off the relationship remains unknown to the public. McCormick suggested that he plans to stay friends with Van Duyne even though it is over.
Before the relationship became public knowledge, sources told The Post they had been dating for more than a year. The timeline shows a long period of private dating before they went public in May. Van Duyne told the Daily Mail about the relationship in May 2024. McCormick filed for divorce from his wife of 12 years that same month.
