Americans across the country were united in a rare and awe-inspiring event: the total solar eclipse. This celestial phenomenon brought the nation to a standstill as millions of people stopped working, paused classes, and took to the streets and city rooftops to catch a glimpse.

The eclipse started in Mexico and made its way through Texas, Arkansas, and Ohio before reaching New York City and Washington DC. The grand finale was in Maine, where families took a break from their daily routines to witness this spectacular event.

The last partial eclipse was seen in Caribou at 4:40 pm, marking the end of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. While many were left amazed by the eclipse, others in New York City were typically underwhelmed.

However, one thing was sure: the eclipse profoundly affected animals in zoos and households across the country. At the Dallas Zoo, giraffes, zebras, and ostriches were seen shrieking, squawking, and running for cover as the skies grew darker. This behavior was also observed in other zoos and in household pets, who were seemingly confused and mesmerized by the changing environment.

In addition to the wonder and excitement caused by the eclipse, multiple car crashes were reported in various locations along the path of totality. The Texas Department of Transportation and Oklahoma Department of Transportation were both on high alert, with crews working diligently to clean up the highways and ensure the safety of travelers.

In Mexico, the beachside town of Mazatlan was the first major viewing spot to experience the total eclipse. Thousands of people gathered along the coastal promenade, armed with eclipse glasses and deck chairs, to witness this rare celestial event. As an orchestra played the theme from “Star Wars,” the eclipse lasted for a total of 4 minutes and 17 seconds, according to NASA.

While the newly announced forecasts for Monday were ominous, with predictions of thunderstorms and cloudy skies, this did not deter thousands of thrill-seekers from packing towns along the path of totality. This path extended from Mexico, through Texas, New England, and finished in Canada.

The total solar eclipse is a reminder of the vastness and wonder of the universe and the power of nature.
