Democrats’ Crime Narrative Meets Republican Response

Oh, the Democrats thought they had a gotcha, didn’t they?

This week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt came in hot—and by hot, I mean she absolutely torched the left’s favorite new talking point: that red states are somehow the real crime dens in America. Cute narrative, but there’s just one tiny problem… it’s wildly misleading. And Leavitt didn’t just bring words—she brought the receipts, the maps, and the mugshots to remind everyone where the real crime chaos is happening.

Let’s set the stage. A reporter lobbed what was probably meant to be a “gotcha” question during the Tuesday briefing: “What about crime in red states?” And instead of ducking, dodging, or giving some milquetoast reply, Leavitt leaned in. She made it crystal clear: Crime doesn’t have a party. But it sure has a ZIP code—and that ZIP code tends to have a Democrat mayor.

Read that again.

Of the top 20 most dangerous cities in the U.S., all but one are run by—you guessed it—Democrats. That lonely outlier? Still pushing Democrat policies at the local level. So, yes, while red states may technically have higher overall crime numbers in some studies, that’s only if you completely ignore the fact that the actual crime spikes are concentrated in Democrat-run cities—even inside red states.

But wait, the left screams—“Look at Mississippi! Look at Alabama!” Okay, let’s do that.

Let’s talk about Jackson, Mississippi—you know, the city that eliminated cash bail for almost all misdemeanors in 2019? Yep, a Democrat stronghold inside a red state. Also acting as a de facto sanctuary city since 2017, even though the state officially banned them. Translation: Democrat leaders in red states are still running their cities like it’s a West Coast progressive fantasyland.

And what about Birmingham, Alabama? The city council there passed a resolution in 2017 pledging sanctuary policies—unanimously. Spoiler alert: that was not a bipartisan kumbaya moment. It was all Democrats. And since then? Crime’s up. Shocking.

Meanwhile, Leavitt threw a little bonus into the mix—just to really make the point sink in. She rolled out arrest numbers in Washington, D.C., which, last we checked, is not exactly a bastion of Republican control. Since August 7, a whopping 2,177 arrests have been made, including 57 just the night before the briefing. What kind of folks were getting picked up? Let’s just say it wasn’t for jaywalking.

Try assault with intent to kill, carjacking, drug possession, and—my personal favorite—illegal aliens and felons with illegal firearms. But tell us again how this is somehow all Mississippi’s fault?

You see what’s happening, right?

The left is playing this dangerous shell game with crime stats. They want to point fingers at red states as a whole, conveniently ignoring that the violence is coming from Democrat-led city centers, often within those very red states. That’s like blaming a broken water pipe on the whole house when it’s clearly leaking from the bathroom someone refuses to fix.

And in case you missed the cherry on top, Leavitt also brought up “Operation Midway Blitz”—Trump’s new federal surge in crime-plagued Chicago. Oh yes, Trump isn’t waiting for another roundtable. The gloves are off, and the blitz is on. Chicago is now ground zero for restoring law and order.

Now let’s address the elephant—or should I say the oversized blue donkey—in the room: Governor J.B. Pritzker. He’s been screeching about red state crime too, but here’s the fun part—his own state is hemorrhaging bodies in Chicago weekend after weekend. His party backed defunding the police, cashless bail, and turning a blind eye to illegal immigration. And now he’s trying to pretend none of that happened?

It’s like torching your kitchen and then blaming your neighbor’s house for smelling smoky.

So, yeah. The left can spin the stats all day. They can draw fancy charts and throw percentages around like confetti. But Leavitt cut right through the noise with brutal clarity: Crime is skyrocketing where Democrat policies are running the show. And no matter how loud they shout “red states!” it won’t change the fact that their cities are turning into crime scenes with voting booths.

Facts don’t care about feelings—but they do care about your zip code.

And right now, if you’re in a blue-run city, it might be time to look both ways before you walk to the corner store.
