Divorce Filed by Wife of Texas Attorney General

In a state where political drama usually comes with barbecue sauce and cowboy boots, this one hit like a Texas twister. A U.S. Senate race that was already shaping up to be a heavyweight GOP clash just got detonated by something no strategist saw coming — a divorce filing dropped right on social media, wrapped in a little scripture and a whole lot of subtext.

Angela Paxton, Texas state senator and wife of Attorney General Ken Paxton, didn’t just quietly hire a lawyer. She lit up X (formerly Twitter) with a statement that read like a Sunday sermon with a dagger hidden between the lines. She filed for divorce on “biblical grounds,” which Texas Monthly helpfully translated for the modern crowd: that means adultery, folks. And she added the kicker — “in light of recent discoveries.”

“Today, after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds.,” she posted on X Thursday, drawing immediate attention.

“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation,” she added. “But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”

In the middle of July, in the middle of a Senate primary, one of the most high-profile conservative couples in the state imploded in real time. Ken Paxton, who has been busy marketing himself as the MAGA hero ready to dethrone John Cornyn, suddenly found himself watching his personal life get splashed across every headline in the country.

The timing couldn’t be messier. Paxton just finished bragging about a $2.9 million fundraising haul. Polls have him leading Cornyn, despite Paxton’s history of indictments, affairs whispered about in Austin hallways, and an impeachment that dragged the state’s dirty laundry onto primetime news.

His base doesn’t flinch — they’ve stuck with him through granite countertops allegedly gifted by donors and whistleblower payouts that taxpayers had to swallow. But this? A wife of nearly four decades filing divorce papers with Bible verses attached? That shakes the narrative.

And yes, the usual Republican establishment players are circling like hawks. The National Republican Senatorial Committee, usually busy protecting incumbents, wasted no time taking a swipe at Paxton. They called what he’s put his family through “repulsive and disgusting.” Those words aren’t tossed around lightly in polite GOP company, which tells you how deep the fractures inside the party run.

Then there’s Cornyn, standing off to the side like the old hand in the saloon, pointing out the obvious: his opponent is drowning in scandal. Paxton, never one to blink, fires back with labels like RINO, hammering Cornyn for voting on gun safety and sending aid to Ukraine. It’s a knife fight over who’s more loyal to Trump, with Paxton trying to own the hard-right brand while Cornyn scrambles to prove his devotion.

Through it all, Paxton posts his own statement asking for prayers and privacy. Privacy, after decades in the headlines, while his wife’s post ricochets through the internet like a ricocheted bullet at a shooting range.

“I could not be any more proud or grateful for the incredible family that God has blessed us with, and I remain committed to supporting our amazing children and grandchildren. I ask for your prayers and privacy at this time,” he added.

The Texas GOP now watches a family feud playing out in public while whispers spread about what those “recent discoveries” might really be. Donors are doing their math. Voters are watching to see if the hero of the MAGA wing survives yet another scandal or finally slips on his own trail of drama.
