It’s not every day you see a sitting U.S. senator’s name dropped in the same sentence as “mortgage fraud,” but here we are. And wouldn’t you know it—of course it’s Adam Schiff, the California Democrat who built his national brand by trying to take down a Republican president, now staring at a letter referring him to the Department of Justice over some very curious home-loan paperwork.
The director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, William Pulte, didn’t mince words in that May letter. He flat-out told Attorney General Pam Bondi that Schiff appears to have falsified bank documents and property records—repeatedly—between 2003 and 2019. Let that sink in. We’re not talking about a single clerical error; we’re talking about a “sustained pattern” across multiple Fannie Mae loans. And for what? Better rates. Better terms. A little break on those payments while the rest of America plays by the rules.
According to documents Fox News obtained, Schiff swore up and down—on paper—that his Potomac, Maryland, property was his primary residence. He reaffirmed it multiple times, even while serving as a California congressman. Meanwhile, back in Burbank, he claimed another primary residence to snag a tidy tax break. You can almost hear middle-class homeowners grinding their teeth from coast to coast.
It’s not just the paperwork that’s catching attention. Pulte’s letter reads like a greatest hits of federal crimes: wire fraud, bank fraud, mail fraud, false statements. And this is the guy who lectured America for years about integrity in government. It’s almost too on-the-nose for a man nicknamed “Shifty” by his favorite nemesis, Donald Trump.
Speaking of Trump, he wasted no time lighting up Truth Social with his reaction. “I have always suspected Shifty Adam Schiff was a scam artist,” he wrote, practically savoring the words. “Mortgage Fraud is very serious, and CROOKED Adam Schiff (now a Senator) needs to be brought to justice.” That post has already been shared and screenshot so many times you’d think it was a campaign ad.
🚨President Trump: I have always suspected Shifty Adam Shiff was a scam artist. And now I learn that Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division has concluded that Adam Schiff has engaged in a sustained pattern of possible Mortgage Fraud.

Schiff, of course, went on camera to say it’s all just another attack from Trump. He brushed off the allegations as baseless, saying the former president has accused him of everything from treason to leaking classified material. The problem for Schiff? This time it’s not just politics—it’s the federal housing watchdog putting his name in black and white, and it’s not pretty.
Donald Trump is calling for me to be criminally prosecuted.
It’s nothing new – but his attacks on the rule of law are more dangerous than ever. pic.twitter.com/UkAkr2Lsql

And there’s more. Remember Marilyn Mosby, the former Baltimore state’s attorney, convicted for making false mortgage statements? Remember the St. Louis man who pleaded guilty after an IG investigation? Those examples were cited in Pulte’s letter. The FHFA isn’t exactly known for throwing around referrals without teeth.
Now Washington insiders are buzzing, donors are whispering, and political enemies are sharpening their knives. Will the Department of Justice take this referral seriously, or will Schiff skate by as usual, shielded by years of Beltway connections?
🔥LMAO President Trump just ROASTED Adam Schiff:
“I think Adam Schiff is on of the lowest of the low. I would LOVE to see him brought to justice. He’s a dishonest and CROOKED guy.”
“Adam Schiff is a serious lowlife.” pic.twitter.com/gxvVvg7ejw

One thing’s certain: if even half of what’s in that letter holds up, this saga could make Schiff’s old impeachment hearings look like a church picnic. And the biggest question swirling in every backroom in D.C. tonight is… what else might those investigators find once they really start digging?
