A boy spends his birthday at a MLB game Friday night. The Philadelphia Phillies were playing the Miami Marlins.
His father runs to grab a home run ball hit by Philadelphia’s centerfielder Harrison Bader and gives it to the birthday boy.
Enter “Phillies Karen.”
The woman took exception to the father entering her section to get the ball and demanded it be given to her, Mediaite reported.
The entire scene was captured on video with many siding with the boy.
However, as MLB Network’s Cliff Floyd and Matt Vasgersian pointed out, the woman was not necessarily the villain in this story.
“Now we’re gonna we’re going to run it folks can have their own opinions,” Vasgersian said. “It’s in the seats OK, guy went over to get it picked it up off the ground and gave it to his son.”
“No big deal,” Floyd added.
“All right. Nice family. Oh, excuse Excuse me, sir,” Vasgersian continued.
“Whoa! That ball was at my feet!” Floyd said. “What? Hold on, fam!”
“That’s my ball. It was at feet first. And the guy said, you know, I don’t want to deal with you, lady. You’re scaring me and my family.
Take the ball,” Vasgersian said. “But good news, the young fan, the boy, the family, going home with a signed bat from Harrison Bader. So he won. You got the signed bat.”
The Phillies took the game 9 to 3.
The woman took the ball and the boy got the bat from Bader and a goodie bag from the Marlins.
Many went on social media to comment on what unfolded.
One poster wrote on X, “This woman has no idea how her life is about to change.”
Friday night’s incident is reminiscent of what played out recently at the U.S. Open when a Polish CEO grabbed a signed hat seemingly intended for a boy, IJR previously reported.
