Reserve Major Suspended for Online Comments

Well, here we go again.

A sitting Army Reserve Major — someone who wears the uniform, carries the rank, and swore an oath to the Constitution — is now under investigation for publicly celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk and casually fantasizing about the deaths of Donald Trump and Stephen Miller.

Maj. Bryan Bintliff, also known by his actor alias “Bryan Harlow,” apparently took to social media not just to comment on Kirk’s murder, but to cheer it on. “A monster died today,” he posted shortly after the assassination. And for good measure, he added that while it’s “sad Charlie’s kids are traumatized for life,” it’s “not a sad thing” that Kirk is dead.

He didn’t stop there.

Bintliff called for Kirk to be “dragged” for everything he was, even in death — a level of vitriol that might make more sense coming from an anonymous burner account than someone with the authority of a U.S. Army officer. But this wasn’t an anonymous troll. This was a man in uniform. And he’s not just talking about Kirk.

He implied Stephen Miller — yes, the former White House senior advisor — should also be assassinated. And then he turned to Trump, wishing death on the former president in more than one post. All public. All documented.

Let’s pause here.

Imagine — just imagine — what would be happening right now if a Republican service member publicly celebrated the death of, say, a liberal commentator or wished violence on someone in the Biden White House. We’d be in the middle of a 24/7 news cycle meltdown, complete with calls for criminal charges, congressional hearings, and the kind of outrage that melts down Twitter’s servers.

But when it’s a left-leaning reservist celebrating political assassination? Crickets.

Thankfully, someone did take notice.

A defense official told the Daily Caller News Foundation that Bintliff has been suspended from his duties with the 8th Medical Brigade, 3rd Theater Medical Command, based in Staten Island. The Army’s Criminal Investigation Division is now reviewing his social media activity.

And now the Pentagon is trying to make it clear — or at least appear to — that this isn’t something they’re brushing off.

“Zero tolerance,” they’re calling it.

That’s the line from Pentagon Chief Spokesperson Sean Parnell and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who said they’re “tracking” all posts that celebrate Kirk’s murder. Parnell put it bluntly on X: “Mocking or celebrating the assassination of a fellow American is unacceptable in the ranks.”

But here’s the part that should make you sit up straight: This wasn’t just tasteless. This wasn’t just venting. This was a uniformed officer expressing support for political violence. And he’s not alone.

There has been an unsettling trend of online leftist reaction to Kirk’s murder that borders on celebratory. The fact that one of them was a ranking officer makes it all the more dangerous — because it raises the question no one in the media wants to ask:

How many more are out there?

How many others in positions of power — whether in government, the military, or education — believe that political violence is justified if the target is on the right?

Kirk’s killer, Tyler Robinson, allegedly carved leftist slogans into his bullets. “Hey Fascist! Catch!” and other Antifa-linked messages were reportedly found on the casings. According to Utah Governor Spencer Cox, the suspect had become increasingly political and was “full of hate.”

That hate turned into action. And now we’re seeing what that kind of thinking looks like when it creeps into the ranks of the military.

So yes — the Pentagon says “zero tolerance.” Let’s hope they mean it.

Because when officers start applauding assassinations, it’s not just a free speech issue.

It’s a national security one.
