The Secret Service announced Sunday that they had shot an armed man who was outside of the White House.

According to the Daily Wire, the man had parked his car close to an entrance into the White House and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. President Donald Trump was not in the area as he and the First Lady Melania Trump were at their residence in Mar-A-Lago Florida for the weekend.

“Secret Service personnel were involved in a shooting following an armed encounter with a person of interest shortly after midnight on March 9 at 17th and G Streets NW. Media staging area will be at 17th and Pennsylvania,” Anthony Guglielmi, Chief Communications for the U.S. Secret Service said in a post on X.

In an official statement, the Secret Service said agents had shot the man following an armed confrontation with law enforcement in Washington, D.C.

“Earlier on Saturday, local police shared information about a suicidal individual who may be travelling to Washington DC, from Indiana. Around midnight, members of the Secret Service encountered the individual’s parked vehicle near 17th and F streets, NW. They also saw an individual on foot matching the description nearby,” the statement reads.

It goes on to detail how the individual brandished his firearm at law enforcement, before being shot. The individual was then taken to an area hospital where his condition is unknown.

“As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel,” Secret Service said.

The statement noted that no Secret Service agents were harmed during the confrontation, and that the incident is now under investigation by local law enforcement.

“The incident is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affair Division’s Force Investigations Team, which investigates all law enforcement officer involved shootings in the District of Columbia,” the statement said.
