Sydney Sweeney is no stranger to transformations, and her latest on-set appearance in Charlotte, North Carolina, is no exception. Known for her striking features—blonde waves, radiant smile, and enviable physique—Sweeney was nearly unrecognizable as she stepped into her new role, signaling yet another ambitious chapter in her career.

Spotted on the set of her upcoming film, reportedly titled “Black Bear,” Sweeney traded her signature look for a rugged, low-key ensemble. Sporting shaggy brown hair under a blue bandanna, paired with a baggy sweatshirt and sweatpants, the “Euphoria” star seemed miles away from the glamour she usually exudes. This drastic shift, however, aligns perfectly with the intense role she’s undertaking—portraying real-life boxing legend Christy Martin, a pioneer who shattered barriers in women’s boxing.

Sweeney’s dedication to the craft is evident. Back in May, she told “Deadline” about her excitement in transforming her body for the physically demanding part. “I grappled and did kickboxing from 12 to 19 years old,” she said. “I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body.” But the film demands more than just physical strength—Christy Martin’s journey is an emotionally heavy one, marked by challenges both inside and outside the ring. “Christy’s story isn’t a light one,” Sweeney emphasized. “There’s a lot of weight to carry, but I love challenging myself.”

Sweeney’s passion for portraying Martin is rooted in more than just admiration for the sport. “Christy Martin not only legitimized female boxing, but she also defied gender stereotypes and battled through personal trauma—emotional, physical, and financial abuse,” she shared. “Her story shines a light on the fight behind the fame, and I feel compelled to tell it.”

This isn’t the first time Sweeney has stepped into the shoes of real-life figures. From portraying Margret Wittmer in “Eden” (directed by Ron Howard) to embodying whistleblower Reality Winner in “Reality,” Sweeney’s knack for taking on complex characters continues to impress. Notably, she also played Dianne “Snake” Lake in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” a young member of the infamous Manson family.

The actress’s versatility knows no bounds, and she thrives on challenging both herself and audience expectations. In a recent interview with “Variety,” Sweeney opened up about how she pushes her limits, especially in films like “Immaculate,” where she also stepped into the producer’s role. “I love finding places within myself that I didn’t know I could unlock,” she said. “When the director yells ‘action,’ I flip a switch. I leave Sydney behind and fully inhabit the character. I don’t rehearse or plan—it’s organic.”
