Trump Reveals Plan To Swap Reporters For A Forgotten FDR Pool

President Donald Trump reportedly wants to remove the White House press briefing room. He plans to turn the space back into an indoor swimming pool. This room was originally built by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933. The pool served as therapy for his polio-afflicted legs. Now, the President tells aides he prefers to bring it back.

According to RedState, the New York Times reported that Trump has shared this specific wish with his staff. To accommodate the news media, President Richard Nixon subsequently filled in the pool. That change happened decades ago to accommodate journalists. Now, credentialed reporters work out of a small office connected to that room. Trump wants to reverse that history.

The Plan and the History

President Trump has considered restoring the space to its initial condition. The Washington Examiner noted that he floated this idea to former press secretary Karoline Leavitt. He told her to remove reporters from the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room before she left. Multiple times, Trump presented his concept to Leavitt, as reported by reports. Prior to departing her role in August, she took no action regarding the issue.

Since then, the president has proposed his plan to various assistants. He even referenced a renovation in a Truth Social post as recent as last month. Constructed by President Franklin D, the space began as a swimming pool. Roosevelt in 1939. His polio-impacted legs received therapy treatment within that facility. With an office for journalists attached, Richard Nixon constructed the briefing room atop the pool. This idea originated during Trump’s first term.

Staff Pushback and Legal Battles

Trump’s close associates either steered him from the notion or delayed until he abandoned it. This detail came from the New York Times, as reported by the Washington Examiner. A legal conflict currently involves the President alongside CNN, MS Now, and Politico. These outlets were banned from White House grounds over reports the President called “fake news”. The outlets subsequently sued the administration.

A U.S. District Judge is currently handling the case, though the source text cuts off the name. Reporting of “fake news” by the outlets prompted the President to state the ban. Some observers see this pool plan as a direct response to the media friction. Ryan Fournier called the plan “master-class trolling” on social media. He penned that Trump holds the title of the greatest troll of all time.

He added that the move means no more dealing with biased reporters. Fournier described the idea as absolutely epic. This reaction highlights the sharp divide between the President and the press corps. The physical removal of the briefing room would end daily press sessions in the West Wing.

What Comes Next

The legal fight with the media companies continues while the renovation idea sits with aides. The President has not yet ordered construction crews to start work. He has only told his staff what he would prefer to see happen. The inner circle’s hesitation suggests the plan faces internal resistance. They may wait for the legal issues to resolve before acting.

If the pool returns, the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room will cease to exist in its current form. The attached office for journalists would also disappear. This would force a major shift in how the White House handles daily news. The President’s team has not said when or if they will proceed. The story remains that he told aides he wants the pool back. The rest depends on his next move.
