President Trump declared that Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, the Democrat Senate candidate, would be the sole senator required to pass through a metal detector should he win the election. The President made this comment while speaking to supporters in Port Huron, Michigan, on October 25, 2026.
Trump told the crowd he wants El-Sayed to undergo this specific screening process before entering the Senate chamber. He argued that anyone with El-Sayed’s record of support for jihadists should face strict security measures.
Security Concerns and Medical Credentials
Trump also addressed El-Sayed’s medical background while on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews. He told reporters that El-Sayed appears to be practicing medicine illegally without a proper license. The President stated that he must be barred from serving in our Senate.
RedState reported that Trump called El-Sayed a “Jihadist Member of the Muslim Brotherhood” during his Truth Social post. The President spent a large part of his speech labeling El-Sayed a national security risk.
“Anyone with that record of support for jihadists would be screened and unable to get a seat on an airplane,” Trump said. He added that the same rule must apply to the United States Senate.
Republican Candidate Sees Shifting Votes
Michigan Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers argued that key Democrat voting blocks are turning away from El-Sayed. Rogers spoke on NBC’s “Meet the Press” about the changing political landscape in the state.
“The Democrat coalitions that we have are the fastest-growing coalitions we have,” Rogers said. He noted that Jewish Democrats and African Americans in cities like Detroit are refusing to vote for the opponent.
Rogers also mentioned that Lon Johnson, the former chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party, will not vote for El-Sayed. Johnson co-wrote an op-ed stating, “We’re not going to vote for him.”
Opponent Defends Faith and Record
El-Sayed has rejected the charges made by Trump and Rogers. He released a campaign video describing himself as a man of faith who prays every day.
“My name is Abdul. It means servant,” El-Sayed said in the video. He argued that more people of faith should hold power in Washington to help families who feel hopeless.
Former President Barack Obama campaigned with El-Sayed in Detroit on Saturday to help win back voters. Obama warned that the opposition would use fear and division against his running mate.
Most polls currently show El-Sayed holding a narrow lead over Rogers in this tight race. The election will determine if Republicans keep their Senate majority or lose it.
