Let’s be honest: it doesn’t take much these days to set off a Twitter storm—or whatever they’re calling it now. One missing ring and suddenly the Vice President’s marriage is under the national microscope. That’s exactly what happened to Second Lady Usha Vance this week, after she dared to show up to an event at Marine Base Camp Lejeune without her wedding ring. Gasp. Someone call the tabloids. Or better yet, Adam Parkhomenko already did.
The photos were taken during a joint appearance with First Lady Melania Trump—a visit to meet with military families that, under normal circumstances, would be the kind of uplifting story everyone could rally behind. But in today’s social media circus, a bare ring finger apparently overshadows patriotism, service, or even the simple fact that the woman was showing up for military families in the first place.
Of course, within hours, people on the left started spinning. Former Clinton advisor Adam Parkhomenko, never one to miss a chance to stir up drama, jumped in to stoke rumors of “marital trouble” between the Second Lady and Vice President J.D. Vance. Because nothing says “we care about national issues” like zooming in on a woman’s hand instead of her actions.

But here’s where things got fun. Usha Vance—or rather, her office—fired back with the kind of response that probably made a lot of moms out there laugh out loud in solidarity. According to her spokesperson, Usha is “a mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes.” In other words, she’s a real human being with real responsibilities and real wet hands. Go figure.
And as it turns out, this isn’t even new. Her spokesperson also noted that Usha has been photographed without her ring multiple times over the past few months. The Associated Press photo archive is full of shots from different events—whether visiting veterans at Walter Reed or accompanying her husband to Pennsylvania, where her ring finger was bare. If this were some sort of marital crisis, it’s been going on for quite a while… and without any actual signs of, well, crisis.
A spokeswoman for @SLOTUS is pushing back on speculation about her and the @VP‘s marriage after she was spotted this week not wearing her wedding ring. Usha Vance is “a mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes,”…

But of course, no one noticed—or cared—until now. So why the outrage this time? Your guess is as good as anyone’s, but it’s worth noting that the left has never really known what to do with a woman like Usha Vance. She’s calm, composed, clearly intelligent, and not out there grandstanding for cameras or trying to play pretend-president from the East Wing. She’s a quiet powerhouse who supports her husband and shows up where it matters—especially for military families, who deserve more than tabloid nonsense.
There’s actually a number of photos of Usha Vance not wearing her wedding ring, including during her visit with the VP to PA earlier this year/last week when she visited wounded veterans at Walter Reed.

Let’s just say it: Usha Vance is not Jill Biden. She’s not putting on a show. She’s not clinging to a political role that no one voted for. She’s not demanding you call her “Doctor” before she’ll answer a question. She’s just living her life—being a wife, mom, and second lady—without fanfare, and apparently without her ring sometimes.
In the grand scheme of things, is this really worth headlines? Not even close. But it’s 2025, and if you’re a Republican woman who doesn’t fit the left’s mold, you can expect to be picked apart for everything—from your ring finger to your reading list.
So here’s a thought: maybe we could stop treating the Second Lady like she’s a contestant on a reality show and start paying attention to the work she’s doing. Because if showing up for veterans, supporting her husband, and washing dishes without losing her ring is controversial now… we might need to raise the bar for what counts as “news.”
