Well, here we are again — another horrific mass shooting, this time not in a city alley or subway, but inside a church. And not just any church. A Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan. You know, the kind of place where families go to pray, not prepare for war. That used to mean something in America. Apparently not anymore.
The suspect? A 40-year-old man from Burton, Michigan. A former U.S. Marine, no less, who served in Iraq from 2004 to 2008. On Sunday, he drove his Chevrolet Silverado straight through the front doors of the church, leveled a semiautomatic rifle at innocent congregants, opened fire, and then set the place on fire. Because of course, the bloodshed wasn’t enough.
This is the guy who rammed his truck into the Church of latter-day saints today. His name is Thomas Jacob Sanford of Burton Michigan. Five people are now dead, including the shooter, after a firefight with police. Multiple others are injured — though as of now, we don’t even have confirmation on how many, or whether they’ll make it. Why? Because this nightmare is still unfolding. The blaze he started consumed most of the building. That’s not just a crime scene — it’s a war zone.
It’s been a tragic 24 hours for our beloved friends in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
First, with the loss of their president, Russell Nelson, over the weekend.
And with the heinous attack on the church in Michigan this morning.

So where do we even begin?
The president — Donald Trump — issued a statement urging Americans to pray for the victims and their families. Because in moments like this, decency still lives. Meanwhile, the FBI and ATF are rushing in to assist, with Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirming agents are on-site to support local police. And let’s just say they’re going to need all the help they can get.

But here’s where it starts to twist.
Michigan’s own Governor Gretchen Whitmer quickly jumped in to offer her thoughts — and you could practically hear the press office drafting that “thoughts and prayers” tweet before the smoke even cleared. “Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable,” she wrote. Yes, Governor. We know. But what is acceptable these days? Because this feels like a tipping point.
This wasn’t some lone, sudden snap. The shooter wasn’t hiding in a basement or scribbling manifestos in a dark room. He was a former Marine. He trained with weapons. He served his country. And yet, somehow, that training, that experience — it twisted into something evil. He didn’t just walk in. He rammed his truck through the church doors. He torched the building. This wasn’t spontaneous. It was calculated, cold, and deliberate.
And yet…
No mention from the usual media suspects on why. No rush to unpack mental health, no think pieces asking how a man trained by the military ends up massacring civilians in a church. Curious, isn’t it? The narrative machine usually turns on a dime — but this time, things are… quiet.
Could it be that the shooter doesn’t fit the media’s preferred mold?
Because here’s what usually happens: if the shooter fits a certain profile, it’s wall-to-wall coverage. Gun control town halls, think pieces on toxic masculinity, pressure on Republicans to “do something.” But when the facts don’t support the agenda? We get platitudes. We get statements. We get “we’re monitoring the situation.”
Meanwhile, five people are dead. A church is in ruins. Families are traumatized. And the only thing more horrifying than what happened… is how predictably it’s being brushed aside.
The Grand Blanc, Michigan church shooting has now left 4 dead after two more victims were found inside the church.
Heartbreaking. Pray for their families and the others who were injured.

We don’t know the full motive yet. We don’t have all the facts. But we do know this: a Marine with a rifle and a lighter walked into a house of worship and left it in flames. That’s not just a tragedy. That’s a national gut-punch.
And maybe — just maybe — it’s time we stopped waiting for the “right” kind of shooter before we start asking the real questions.
