Democrat Fundraising on Islands
Democrats are holding major fundraisers on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard this summer as they build cash for the November elections. As of June 30, Democratic groups held about $136 million in cash while Republicans held roughly $277 million, according to federal filings reported by Fox News. Key leaders like Hakeem Jeffries and Seth Moulton have been spotted on the island for these events. On Aug. 31, former President Barack Obama went to Martha’s Vineyard to attend a redistricting event.
Wes Moore attended a fundraiser on the island the weekend of Aug. 8 despite being a possible governor. Maryland GOP officials criticized his focus on national profiles rather than local state problems. Iowa Senate candidate Josh Turek was also seen on Nantucket while the state fair was still underway.
Investigation Plans for Trump
House Democrats are preparing a slate of investigations targeting President Donald Trump and his family if they win back the majority in November. Rep. Jason Crow told Fox News Digital he plans to start with the Department of Defense to look for corruption. He stated that he intends to begin with the Department of Defense due to risks facing service members and issues regarding corruption, incompetence, and nepotism.
Reports have emerged connecting defense funding to firms associated with the Trump family. Crow noted that reports regarding links between defense money and appropriations programs, plus White House requests to direct spending to specific companies associated with the Trump family, are disturbing. Over the preceding two years, multiple impeachment resolutions were tabled, yet none have collected momentum so far.
Rep. Robert Garcia, who may lead the Oversight Committee, is already working with Jamie Raskin on potential probes. Garcia told reporters he was looking at “a few key investigations” but did not name them all. Crow noted that impeachment is just one option available to Congress.
Tools for Accountability
Crow described his approach to using congressional powers to get information and attack corruption. He noted that Congress possesses various tools to seek accountability, obtain information, and combat corruption. In response to whether he would employ impeachment again, Crow stated that he will not delay using that instrument if it proves the correct choice, but there are other tools available to us, too.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has avoided answering questions about impeachment plans on multiple occasions. The most likely first steps will focus on corruption and mismanagement within federal agencies. Raskin told Fox News Digital about his plans when asked about the scope of these future inquiries.
